Miami. We all know Miami as the city of parties and expensive yachts. I still remember arriving in Miami and feeling overwhelmed by the abundance of people and bars in almost every corner. Business Cards.
I came to this city to start from scratch. I had created my business in the comfort of my bedroom but I knew it was time to get out and start networking. I just wasn’t sure how. I tried Instagram and Twitter but could not seem to build a following like most of the influencers I have seen on social media. It felt like an empty road was ahead of me, however, the lights far ahead gave me the motivation to keep going for my dreams.
I refused to give up on myself so I made the decision to get something tangible, simple, yet powerful. My very own business cards. To this day, I still remember the exciting feeling of seeing so many options and getting so many ideas at Nice New Cards. I felt like a kid at the candy store.
Once I got my business cards, I felt like I officially started my journey of building up my brand.
From going to cafes, bars, and conferences, I always had a tangible extension of my brand with me.
I remember this one instance I was having brunch with a friend of mine when I suddenly overheard the couple next to me talking about needing the service that I provided.
I perked up and quickly went into my pocket to pull out one of my business cards. I presented myself and handed them my card. After a quick exchange of information, that beautiful couple became my good friends and repeat clients from that day moving forward. I was so thankful that I had my business cards at that moment. After that experience, I had the confidence to let my business card do all the talking. I joined more conferences, spoke to more people, and happily networked in Miami.
Although I tend to meet most of my customers out in the streets while networking, I do have a few of my repeat customers giving out my business cards, letting them know how I have helped them. It’s amazing to see a piece of cardstock going hand to hand, city to city, doing the talking by itself. That’s exactly why every few years, I upgrade my business cards. I always felt that upgrading my business cards represents upgrading my brand and myself. You attract what you are.
Networking in Miami can seem a bit overwhelming but I can assure you that meeting face to face is still the way to go in this day and age. Business cards have been my go-to way of networking for the longest time now and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
